Any suggestions for good non-leather/suede hiking shoes?

Hi everyone! All the good hiking shoes I want to buy have some leather on them. Are there any hiking shoes that don't have any animal products on them? I want something that is rugged and will last a long time though. Is leather the only way to go?

Any suggestions for good non-leather/suede hiking shoes?
First things first. Find a manufacturer who has a last that is designed for you type of foot. It might take several trips to a number of places but this is crucial. Have someone measure your feet. One is typically longer than the other and a little larger volume wise.

Depending on your location, if you can find a quality boot fitter there are no limits. They can stretch or punch certain areas to customize the fit.

Once you find a "Brand" then pick your materials. If in a dry place you can probably avoid GOR-TEX. It is great but it doesn't breath as good as they say. Also highly recommend Smart Wool socks. They come in various types for all kind of hiking.

A good idea if your close to one is look up Surefoot. They can make your feet feel like nothing else.
Reply:I have been researching boots for a while and had a few pairs of hiking boots over the years. If you do heaps of bush walking, trekking, hiking, back packing then buy a decent pair and spend around $200 - $300. There are so many options it can get very confusing. Leather boots can be heavy, hot and often impractical for hiking. I would recommend getting one's that breathe to keep your feet comfortable and a good pair of socks. I can highly recommend Lowa boots (www.lowaboots.com) There is one importer in Australia, but they only import certain models. I purchased my online from the USA. I have the Lowa Jannu Mid for the extra ankle support but you can get the Jannu Lo which are the shoe version.
