I am only 18 years old and live in georgia. I bought a 22 gun from a friend last year and he wouldn%26#039;t tell me who he got it from. I bought it from protection but never used it or know how to use it. I have had it hidden in my house for a while and I don%26#039;t want it. How can I get rid of it? I thought about dumping it in the lake and i dont even know if the gun is clean/stolen? I don%26#039;t want to go to the police station and get in trouble if the gun was stolen/etc. What should I do? Can I pawn it while I am underage? Please advise! I don%26#039;t want this and I dont even know how to use a gun. Please give me adivse on what you guys would do in my shoes

What are we talking about here, a handgun or rifle? Do you have a bill of sale? What history do you know about this .22 from the friend who sold it to you? Why did you feel then that you needed a gun for protection and what has changed?
Things to consider: 1. Is the gun stolen? Then you are in possession of stolen property. 2. Has the gun been used in the commission of a crime? then you are in possession of evidence.
Things not to do: 1. Don%26#039;t compound your problem by ditching the gun that may belong to someone else, or be evidence in a crime; ditching it may make it accessible to undesirable elements such as criminals or juveniles or even children.
Best thing to do: Come clean; call up your local police and tell them what happened. If the gun is not stolen or evidence in a crime they may even let you keep it. If you still don%26#039;t want it, ask them to have it destroyed or stow it in their evidence bin.
The thing NOT to do and I can%26#039;t emphasize this enough: Don%26#039;t stroll into your local police department or walk up to a policeman toting a gun. Call first and if possible, have them come to you.
Good luck.

and chulhui123 sounds like an ignorant dumb f%$% who knows nothing. Report It
Reply:You can legally own it if you are 18 years old and it is a .22 rifle. You can call you local police station. Tell them you bought a weapon from someone and now want to sell it. However, you want to check that it isn%26#039;t stolen before selling it. If it is stolen, then you may have to report your friend.
Trust me. Anyone who would steal something and sell it to you is not a friend. If it turns out that it is not stolen, then you can sell the rifle to a pawn shop or gun store to get rid of it.
Reply:If I were in your shoes I would go to the police station with the gun unloaded and say your are turning it in .
Reply:i would give it to the police and tell them the who story and do not throw it in the lake if they find it they might think it is stolen or murder or you could sell it on ebay. hope i helped
Reply:grind all the lettering off it is a very bad idea, and illegal.
If you wont to get rid of it just take it to the police and tell them you found it and just wonted to turn it in in case it was lost or stolen. But they will ask where have your story ready before you get there.
That way the police get it and you are free of it, and no child will get it.
That my opinion.

Reply:Turn it over to the Police..that gun could have been stolen or used in a crime, and if it is found in you possession you might get the blame..better to tell the Police, say you found it, and avoid a lot of problems and heartaches.
Reply:if i were you, id tell my friend to take the gun back and if he doesnt, youll surrender it to the police. you dont want to go to jail and taint your record for something stupid like this.
Reply:Most of these answers are complete garbage...don%26#039;t take legal advice from Yahoo Answers!
I am providing a link below that details Georgia%26#039;s firearm laws. Please read the page yourself. The 18 year old law only applies to handguns. Your possession of this gun is currently legal, so don%26#039;t worry about that and do not dump it in a lake.
Call your local police office and tell them you have a firearm that you no longer want. Ask them if they will take it or recommend someone that you can take it to. Get the name of the person you are speaking to, write their name and number on a piece of paper and do what they tell you.
Guns are not bad or evil. They are just a tool. What someone does with them is on the person whose finger is on the trigger.
Reply:u can go to a police station and they will take it from you. this is what i would do.
Reply:Call your local law enforcement agency. They often have amnesty days where they will accept weapons for destruction. Sometimes they even offer gift certificates and such for those who turn them in. They are your first and best option.
Reply:Give it to me
Reply:Sell it or throw it away.
Reply:If you just want to get rid of it, go throw it in a deep lake. Or you can do the right thing and take it to the police. Just explain how you got it and that you are actually afraid of the weapon and just want to get rid of it.
Reply:consult the people down at the police office, if its not stolen, then get rid of it, by selling it of course
Reply:SELL IT IN THE LOCAL BUYERS GUIDE
IF U BOUGHT LEAGALY U HAVE NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT
Reply:I would wait for an amnesty day, or just call the police from a pay phone and say you want to know how to dispose of it legally. But whatever you do, don%26#039;t just throw it out a window or anything. A kid in my old neighborhood found one like that. And don%26#039;t pawn it, even if they will let you. You will be the last owner on record, and if someone shot up a bar or killed a hooker with it, well, you get the idea. Be safe, and good luck. Kudos for doing the right thing too.
Reply:Turn it over to the police, it is the best way to go.....good for you to take it away.
Reply:depends on if its a rifle or a pistol. pistols are generally regulated more than long guns. if its a rifle, put it in a back closet. nobody%26#039;s going to ask any questions about it. if its a pistol, grind all the lettering off it, take it apart, and get rid of the pieces separately.
Reply:I would turn it in as a person may have been harmed and what if it was you?
The Police are not there as a means of conflict, but rather as a means to control conflict.
We in modern times have forgotten about the kids that want to grow up to be cops, and well do!!
They deserve your trust.
As well you deserve theirs if you are honest.
Never ever allow anyone or anything to lead you to a bad path. This It is the only life you have. 1 life 1 choice.
And it all goes by sooo fast!!!
Reply:you could go to the local police and just say you found it .
Reply:S Can it in the lake aint worth enough to worry about a couple of hits with a sledge hammer incase some little kid finds it you have the right idea
Reply:Give it to a friend who shoots.
Reply:Do the right thing and turn it over to the cops.
Reply:Guns are evil.
Just as jets were used to bring down the Twin Towers, and to torture travelers on tarmacs, guns have been the bane of civilization since their invention.
You are wise to get rid of the weapon. Only grief and regret will come your way, if you keep it, or worse, allow another to own it.
When all guns have been melted down, mankind will be safe from the burden of responsibility. Modern man has no valid use for a killing weapon. We have supermarkets, and so, hunting is no longer appropriate.
Guns were very necessary at one point in our history, but that was when political leadership sought to tax and regulate beyond their bounds.
Today, governmental bodies are the best friend of man. We no longer need to fear a thief breaking in and stealing our hard-earned enjoyments. We are protected by laws and the prisons house all of those who make a living by taking from us by force.
I suggest you donate the gun to a museum. Let children see it from behind a strong plexiglass display case, to teach that man is no longer savage.
Thankfully we are a virtuous people, with integrity as the main driver of our leaders.
If this were not so, for example, if government were secretly planning a police state using digital images for tracking our movements, and discreet electronic profiling of any financial anomaly, the gun might be needed to remind them that we still remember the benefits of freedom to man.
As this is not the case, get rid of the gun, please.

Reply:Wipe it clean of your fingers print, and then toss it in the nearest lake
Reply:when ur mom is coming upstairs, quickly toss it into ur sisters hand and say %26quot;oooooo, what is that thing ur holding sis%26quot;
works all the time.
no im just playin, unless u want to beleive me and get ur but kicked.
listen, u cant sell it so i think the best thing u can do is dump it. u should have a car so there is no problem of any family member catching u. try to dump in a place that not many people go so nobody else can see u. dont worry if its stolen. cuz if it wuz, the cops would probably already have tracked it down, especially if ur %26quot;friend%26quot; wuz trying to set u up. look, try to rap it up in some garbage bag and add some other garbage in it so it wont look like its only a gun in there.
