Why do all these people making new "breeds" of dogs get away with it????

I mean, were supposed to be protecting the pet population and every joe blow is coming up with a new breed of mutt. Shi-poo, puggle, labra-doodle, shitz-in-shoes. (okay that last one was just for fun!!!)Give me a break. A few years ago dog owners were giving these mongrels away to get rid if them. Now people are paying big bucks WHY????

Why do all these people making new %26quot;breeds%26quot; of dogs get away with it????
I couldn%26#039;t agree more. It%26#039;s sick. Millions of dogs are dying every year in the U.S. and these people are charging outrageous amounts for mutts.

We are suppossed to be protecting the pet population because WE domesticated them and are responsible for them. Don%26#039;t be blind and selfish.
Reply:Because there is a MARKET!!!

The average %26quot;boob-in-the-street%26quot; is ABYSMALLY ignorant(%26amp; 50% are STUPID to boot),will SWALLOW***ANY** line a crook hands them, are TOO LAZY to actually get off their BUTTS to RESEARCH, *%26amp;* are as SHEEP in their desire to follow ANY %26quot;fad%26quot; that comes along.

Just keep plugging away.

Keep TELLING them how STUPID they are.

Keep TELLING them they WILL get SCREWED!!
Reply:A lot of the pure breeds around today (recognized by the AKC) originated from a cross of 2 or more breeds.

This is just a few of the breeds that I know of that started out as crosses, but there are many others.

Boston Terrier - originated from a cross between an English Bulldog and an English White Terrier.

Shih-tzu - originated from a cross between the Lhasa Apso and the Pekingese

Yorkshire Terrier - The Yorkshire Terrier traces to the Waterside Terrier, a small longish-coated dog, bluish-gray in color, weighing between 6 and 20 pounds (most commonly 10 pounds). The Waterside Terrier was a breed formed by the crossing of the old rough-coated Black-and-Tan English Terrier (common in the Manchester area) and the Paisley and Clydesdale Terriers. It was brought to Yorkshire by weavers who migrated from Scotland to England in the mid-19th century.
Reply:People are breeding dogs with poodles b/c of poodles intelligence and nearly non-shedding coat, and the mixing produces a cute, more healthy dog. By combining the breed names into something frufru, it makes the buyer believe they are getting an upscale purebred dog. here is an example of newspaper ads:

poodle/bichon frise mixes and poodle/yorkie mixes. $250 dollars each.

OR

adorable little hybrid dogs availible, bich-poos and yorkiepoos!!! $1,200 each

of course the second add makes the dog sound more fancy, moe important,-more purebred. and it%26#039;s NOT. people will readily pay more than your average purebred dog for a mutt with %26quot;poo%26quot; stuck somewhere in the name....let%26#039;s keep dogs bloodlines pure and stick to purebreds, thanks.
Reply:they get away w it because stupid people everywhere are paying the big bucks for em.....basically it boils down to the old supply %26amp; demand.....its not right but it is how it is....as long as the public is willing to spend BIG BUCKS on a mutt then you will have back yard breeders willing to breed em....
Reply:i don%26#039;t know. but i agree with you 100%. its ridicules so many dogs are in the pound looking for good homes but people keep breeding and adding to the overwhelming population of dogs. its sad
Reply:Because people think they%26#039;re sooooooo cute. UGH...and you%26#039;re right. Seems like even having a certain kind of pet can become a fad. If the Jones%26#039; down the street have the cutest little doodle then we should get one too. Unfortunately so many of the little %26quot;fads%26quot; end up in shelters once the novelty wears off. It%26#039;s sad.

I have 3 muts...none are registered. One rescued from a shelter and one rescued locally because it was unwanted. I love them to pieces. To me...nothin beats a mut.
Reply:Because these breed looks like higher and you look more rich or shall I say you feel you are not commoners.. But your right they are irresponsible...
Reply:The neighbor%26#039;s Lab, mixed with my mom%26#039;s small standard poodle..My mom couldn%26#039;t give the pups away! She finally ran the third ad, offering a 50 pound bag of Purina with the last 2...

Now, they are Labradoodles..and sell for hundreds! lol
Reply:that%26#039;s the natural course of things..there%26#039;s always something new....creativity has to go somewhere....
Reply:Don%26#039;t know... I own a Germanese Spitz (japanese spitz and german shepherd) jkjk !

Reply:New breeds are going to evolve... the question is why though? Unfortunately most of the breeds being created currently are being developed for one reason, because they sell. Almost all of the breeds untill very recently were developed, fine tuned, and standardized for very distict purposes. Hunting, racing, working, fighting, ratting, and some just as companions. Almost none of the current AKC breeds were developed for profit only. Profit was often a driving measure, but not the primary design goal. Fighting breeds may seem like they%26#039;re bred for profit, but they%26#039;re bred for stamina, strength, durability, aggression... not just %26#039;lets cross this with that because it%26#039;ll sell%26#039;

It%26#039;s crazy, 10 years ago you couldn%26#039;t sell a mutt for $100... now peek-a-poo%26#039;s sell for $1,100 in pet stores... on the upside the crosses have fewer genetic concerns but they also are more difficult to put a label on their temperament. It could go either way depending on what breeds are crossed and which genes show up. Unfortunately we live in a commercial society, anything they put in a pet store with a semi-official sounding name is going to sell. People see it in a cage next to a purbred german shepherd and think it qualifies as the same. I hate pet stores ;-) but not for the mutts they are pushing these days... http://www.prisonersofgreed.org

I think there is a need to keep developing breeds and to create new ones. But with a purpose, not driven by what%26#039;s in fasion this year.
Reply:Because people are stupid enough to buy them, pay the outrageous prices they charge and call them purebreds. Mutts are wonderful dogs, just don%26#039;t reward the so called breeders for breeding them.
Reply:Because people are fooled. They are what is called designer breeds and while people buy, people breed them.

When people are finished with the problems presented to them from the designer breeds and that one is out of fashion then another comes along.

It is up to us to educate so that people are not fooled. Only dogs with purebred papers have at least a starting point.

The next time someone complains because they were bitten by a puppy mill or byb and our reply is sorry, but you have to live with it and do your best for the dog will they realize that the designer breed they bought is not of the best quality.

Shout it out loud from your lungs, if you buy a designer breed and pay mega bucks for it you were swindled, you were caught and you were a fool, don%26#039;t be proud of your purchase and bring the breeder down, NOW!!! Dob in a BYB for the sake of dogs.
Reply:I agree with redneck.... although I%26#039;ve found myself wanting a pug or wanting a puggle or wanting one of those %26quot;HYBREEDS%26quot;... but I%26#039;ve got two pups, both adopted from shelters and I couldn%26#039;t love them more. After adopting them I could never bring myself to spend so much money on a bred dog, full bred or half-breed like these new ones, just because, check out petfinder.com there are SOOOOOO many animals in need of homes from shelters it%26#039;s unbelievably sad. As soon as we buy our next house with a big yard, I%26#039;ll be adopting more. I wish something could be done about it. How hard is it to get your pup spayed or neutered and the people that make money of breeding their dogs almost nauseates me....
Reply:Do you know how dog breeds are created? I will tell you. WITH TWO DIFFERENT DOG BREEDS!!! Yes, that makes every dog breed a mutt or mongrul, except the first dog on earth. Even my precious pure bred poodle is a mutt then. Or may be somepeople just get too caught up with the piece of paper that says your dog is better than someone that didn%26#039;t send extra money in to a bullsh*t politicle club. Kennel clubs only exist for people who can%26#039;t love an animal for what it is, but only for what it is worth. How much are you worth and do you have a paper that says so?
Reply:Plain and simple. M*O*N*E*Y! No regard for genetic defects, temperament, anything. The puppies are the victims. We%26#039;re seeing Puggles come up in our shelters here already. Greed is the answer, not making better dogs. That%26#039;s what these %26quot;breeders%26quot; are after...the all mighty dollar.
Reply:Because they can.. where is it written %26quot;we%26quot; are supposed to be protecting the pet population anyhow?
