My house has smelled like urine for the last three days. I can't tell where the darn odor is coming from! Help

I vacuumed the rug with baking soda, used copious amounts of air freshener, etc. Nothing works for very long. It%26#039;s odious and horrible. My male roommate does NOT miss the toilet. All I can think of is that someone tracked it in on their shoes.

Check your electric installation. If you have tubes instead of bulbs the installation, when it goes wrong, gives out bad smells, on occasion similar to stale urine or rotten fish.
Reply:Maybe your roomate is wetting the bed...You never know....If its coming from his room, then something is going on with him...Do some more investigating..
Reply:maybe you have a mouse or rodent living either in the house or within the walls or ceiling.
Reply:I have seen hand-held blacklights that people use to find pet urine stains on dark carpeting, so I guess urine shows up in black light. I imagine it would have to be more than faint traces here and there. Maybe you should rent a carpet shampooer and use pet odor elimantor, which is a polite way of saying %26quot;pee on the carpet.%26quot;
Reply:I would say to shampoo your carpet or rugs even if you have to take the rug outside and hose it down, do it. Then Get a bucket of warm water with about a cup or two of bleach, or pine sol and wash down every surface you can in the bathroom/walls/doors/floors, pretty much anything that you can wash with water and bleach-wash it. Maybe that will help. You can also after wards open some windows on either side of the house to air it out a couple times a week. Maybe the air just gets stale or maybe you have a mold growth somewhere behind your wall you could call someone to get it checked out.
Reply:You may have a cat that is %26quot;in heat%26quot; under your house. They tend to %26quot;spray%26quot; and emit a urine-smelling scent as part of their mating habits. Also, male cats will mark their territory similarly. It will probably go away in a few days, and when it does, make sure all access to the underneath side of your house is blocked. If that is not a possibility, you may have a leak in the seal of your toilet. Water can seep underneath linoleum before you notice it. It can leave urine residue to create the smell you%26#039;re talking about. If that%26#039;s the case and you%26#039;re a Do-It-Yourselfer, it costs less than $5.00 to replace the seal and about 45 minutes of your time. If not, have the landlord replace it or ask your friends if they have any experience doing that. A return favor or dinner is a whole lot cheaper than a plumber! Hope you find it soon.
Reply:To rid bad smell´s pop a pot of water on to boil, when boiled turn the heat down and add vinegar, leave the pot to simmer for as long as possible . Just remember to top up the water now and then. This will help at least until you find where the smell is coming from
Reply:It is really hard to get the smell of urine out of the carpet but I use a home made recipe that I found that works great.
Reply:I hate to tell you, but if there is urine in the carpet NOTHING gets the odor out completely. Our cat kept missing the litter box when she was near the end of her life and I swear I have bought every product on the market to get rid of that smell and it helps, but it is still there. I am planning to re-carpet the room.
Reply:I know this sounds gross but I found out that my newphew and my son were urinating in the bath tub. This in return made the whole house smell of urine. Try going to the hardware and getting some urine be gone it is advertised on T.V. It really does work spray it throughout your bathroom including in the tub/shower. Most men or boys will not admit to urinating in the tub, but may do it in there sleep. we found my newphew doing it at about 3:30 a.m. or you may have a critter living somewhere in your home and urinating somewhere again try the urine be gone it really works let me know if I%26#039;ve helped any.
