What is this hard callus-like spot on the side of my foot??

Last fall I noticed a spot on the outside of my foot. It is hard to the touch like a callus and when I try to go snowboarding the pressure makes it feel like someone is stabbing me with a thousand needles and it will stay tender for a while after I snowboard. If I wear big shoes/slippers around the house I barely notice it. I can notice that it makes my foot look like there is a lump on the side. This is about 1.5 inches back from the tip of my pinky toe on the widest part of the foot.

Please help, I have no idea what this is or how to get rid of it.

it could be a callus or a corn. if its yellow in color it could be a corn, if not then probably a callus. I have them as well. Try wearing well fitting shoes. if they keep bothering you. talk to your doctor.
Reply:Sounds to me like you have a Corn. Unpleasant little beggars they are too! You can buy some salicylic preparation from the pharmacy - ask for corn removal pads. Or buy corn cushions, this is a ring of felt that protects the area and stops it rubbing and causing the pain. They are treatable, can be caused by wearing shoes too tight. They can also be cut off, but see a chiropodist for this.........though lots of women have been known to dry them out with the corn removing liquid then scrape them off.........yuk! Hope yours are soon history!
Reply:Get referred to a foot doctor and have it checked out.
Reply:I suggest that you go to get a pedicure. They will help remove the callus. Also, at home, you can put a layer of vasaline on your callus BEFORE you put shoes and socks on. It will help make it softer.
